The Mott transition in V 2 O 3 and NiSe x S 2 ~ x : insights from dynamical mean field theory
نویسنده
چکیده
We discuss some aspects of the pressure (or interaction) driven Mott transition, in three-dimensional transition metal oxides by means of dynamical mean field theory. We isolate the universal properties of the transition from the aspects which depend more on the detailed chemistry of the compounds. In this light we can understand the main differences and the remarkable similarities between the NiSe x S 2~x and the V 2 O 3 system. Both theory and experiment converge on the transfer of spectral weight from low energies to high energies as the universal mechanism underlying the Mott transition, and we comment on the possible relevance of these ideas to other metal to nonmetal transitions. The combination of bandstructure theory in the local density approximation with dynamical mean field theory was recently successfully applied to V2O3 – a material which undergoes the famous Mott-Hubbard metal-insulator transition upon Cr doping. The aim of this short paper is to emphasize two aspects of our recent results: (i) the filling of the Mott-Hubbard gap with increasing temperature, and...

Strongly correlated metals close to the Mott transition display unusual transport regimes, together with large spectral weight transfers in optics and photoemission. We briefly review the theoretical understanding of these effects, based on the dynamical mean-field theory, and emphasize the key role played by the two energy scales associated with quasiparticle coherence scale and with the Mott ...

متن کاملSound velocity anomaly at the mott transition: application to organic conductors and V2O3.
Close to the Mott transition, lattice degrees of freedom react to the softening of electron degrees of freedom. This results in a change of lattice spacing, a diverging compressibility, and a critical anomaly of the sound velocity. These effects are investigated within a simple model, in the framework of dynamical mean-field theory. The results compare favorably to recent experiments on the lay...

We present a detailed theoretical study of the electronic, magnetic, and structural properties of magnesiowüstite Fe1−xMgxO with x in the range between 0 and 0.875 using a fully charge self-consistent implementation of the density functional theory plus dynamical mean-field theory method. In particular, we compute the electronic structure and phase stability of the rocksalt B1-structured (Fe,Mg...
